ARL@ ZES/NAVIS SolutionsWorld in San Francisco

During Solutions World 2010, hosted by Zebra Enterprise Solutions in San Francisco, California, USA in September 2010, arl-shipping.com participated exhibiting and demo'ing the Navis RTG Commander, which is build by ARL.

ARL's Rene Bendt together with ZES/Navis's Robert Inchausti gave one of the most well visited presentations with almost 100 people attending, presenting the options and features that take the very expensive guess work out of how many RTGs you really need to run your operation, and in which yard blocks to deploy them.

Zebra Enterprise Solutions Introduces New Navis STAR Technology Alliance and Partnership with arl-shipping.com

Oakland, CA — September 28, 2010 — Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ: ZBRA), today announced the launch of the Navis STAR Technology Alliance. The new program allows for the creation of process automation solutions by partnering leading technology vendors with ZES to pre-integrate their technology into the ZES terminal operating system (TOS). Current partners in the Navis STAR Technology Alliance include arl-shipping.com, APS Technology Group and Symeo GmbH.

arl-shipping.com, one of the alliance's first partners, is working with ZES to integrate its Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) optimization tools into the ZES SPARCS product, the leading container management software solution for real-time graphical planning and control of container terminals. This combined solution optimizes the deployment of RTGs and can calculate the volume of RTGs required for next shifts based on yard impact time of planned quay crane operations in container terminals. Currently this system is deployed at one of the world's largest terminals, which has seen a 20 percent reduction in RTG deployment, an increase in RTG productivity jump 16 percent and reduced RTG driving distance by 17 percent.

"We are confident that ZES' technology, integrated with our solutions offerings, will continue to produce the best results possible for our customers," said René Bendt, Chief Executive Officer at arl-shipping.com. "arl-shipping.com is excited to be able to provide our current and future customers with more innovative and customized solutions, fueled by ZES technology, which was not available to us before."

Through this alliance, ZES and its partners collaborate to integrate their products and define product roadmaps that will deliver additional benefits in the future. ZES will be offering these solutions directly to our customers with the additional value of a single vendor responsible for the solution implementation and long term support and maintenance. The alliance affords ZES the opportunity to provide customers with access to the latest marine terminal solutions, not available through other third party vendors that provide measurable benefits to their business.

"We are excited to bring together our leading TOS with top technology vendors to offer complete solutions and bring more value to our terminal operator customers," said Bill Walsh, General Manager at ZES. "Partners and customers alike will benefit from the technology and support provided by ZES pre- and post-deployment."

ZES is offering complete solutions for gate, rail and vessel Optical Character Recognition (OCR) through our partnership with APS Technology, a leading provider of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and process automation solutions for marine and intermodal terminals, and marine telematics solutions through our partnership with Symeo GmbH, a leading provider of wireless position detection systems, distance measurement products and anti-collision solutions for terminals and industrial applications.

"We are looking forward to further expanding our Alliance and providing our partners with more innovative technology to support their offerings and ultimately grow their business," said Chuck Schneider, Vice President of Business Development, ZES.

PTP Increase Container Handling Productivity By Using ARL RTG Tools

HONG KONG & ROTTERDAM, 17 September 2009 - Port of Tanjung Pelepas, PTP deploy suite of ARL tools for RTG & yard block management; the RTG Deployer, the RTG Dispatcher and the Yard Clash Predictor.

The RTG Deployer calculates the amount of RTGs needed on the yard for the next shifts based on the terminals set target productivity taking the planned and yet un-planned quay crane moves into account. The RTG Dispatcher produces optimized RTG dispatching instructions in real time assuring maximum utilization of all RTGs on the yard by using sophisticated math optimization algorithms. The Yard Clash Predictor concludes, if the currently planned sequence of quay crane moves will result in derived yard clashes, and prompts the terminal to re-plan and eliminate the yard clashes well in advance, securing an un-interrupted quay crane operation.

The optimization tools read the data updated in the Terminal Operating System and constantly apply optimization algorithms to offer the best possible planning and execution scenarios to the operator.

Better planning and optimized operational execution result in less fuel and maintenance expenses, minimal idle time for RTGs on the yard, no delays in quay crane, vessel, rail, or gate operations, and an optimal number of RTGs deployed even during peak times. Planning teams can deploy a low amount of RTGs, yet sufficient to perform all planned moves without delays.

PTP, South East Asia's fastest growing port, is strategically located at the southwest shoulder of Johor, Malaysia, with a minimum diversion time from the confluence of the main international shipping lanes. The port's location presents significant geographical advantages through its deep waters, sheltered bay and wide access channel. PTP is already the user of ARLs Berthing Planner and Resource Demand Manager.

From left: Chandran Raman Kutty, Operations Execution Manager (PTP), Mohd Fairuz Sukar, Senior RTG Dispatcher (PTP), Ren Bendt, CEO (ARL) and Thiagu Krishnan, Operations Execution Senior Manager (PTP). The PTP planners have increased the RTG productivity with more than 15% compared to an end-2008 performance benchmark.

The ARL tools have allowed PTP to try out some variants of deployment and management of the RTG fleet in a reliable and predictable manner, resulting in a significantly higher RTG productivity, eventually enabling the experienced and skilled planning teams to focus on exception management to a much higher degree, rather than being instrumental in executing the day-to-day planning and operations monitoring. The direct savings resulting from the increased productivity has paid back PTPs initial investment in a matter of weeks.

"We are happy to deliver these RTG & yard management optimization tools to PTP and highly appreciate the contribution PTP has made during the development phase. PTPs aggressive quest for continuous improvement of the terminal efficiency has been a major contributing factor for us now releasing these tools to the market" adds arl-shipping.com and ARL Consulting Director & CEO, Rene Bendt.
